Facilities
 
The college is situated in a sprawling campus with a massive building that houses all the teaching departments, class rooms and the administrative offices. The college has well equipped laboratories for the science departments. The Zoology Department also has a Bio-technology laboratory. The college also has the infrastructure for the induction of ICT technology into the teaching-learning process. All major teaching departments have equipment such as computers, OH projectors, etc. The Department of English has an audio-visual studio with facilities for video production.The college provides free internet facilities for all postgraduate departments and library under NMEICT programe of government. The college also has a fully functional Physical Education wing with its own gymnasium and sports equipment.
Library
LibraryThe College Library is named after the late Maharaja of Travancore, Chithirathirunal Balarama Varma, to acknowledge the benevolent patronage of the royal family to Sanatana Dharma Vidyasala and the College. The automation of the library is underway, using “SOUL SOFTWARE” (INFLIBNET SOFTWARE). The resources and services of all the 11 Departmental libraries are linked to this library which also functions as the General College Library. The laborious process of centralization will be completed by March 2012, and the relocating of books from various departments has already in progress. The 463 sq.m extension work of the library building is being carried out to provide separate reference and internet area and additional facility for stacking of books.

Apart from the regular services, the library offers guidance to students who seek academic assistance and information regarding placements. The Librarian provides guidance to students of IGNOU and at present is supervising three Projects of MLIS students of IGNOU. The Library also displays various placement messages, admission information, notifications of Essay competitions and Quiz competitions. Help desk messages published by University of Kerala are also made accessible to the students. The faculty also gets information regarding Orientation/Refresher courses/ Seminars conducted by the University of Kerala and other Universities. The library provides facilities of online registration for higher studies to students. The Librarian also helps the Placement Coordinator and gives information about the Civil Services Aptitude Test, Business Schools and other career options.

BOOKS FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMS
The Library gives special importance to the collection of reference books for Competitive Exams, with timely updating.

E-DOCUMENTS
The articles published in Electronics for You, E-Dictionaries, Encyclopaedia Britannica and other educational CDs are available in the library.

GANDHIAN STUDIES
The library has a very good collection of books on Gandhian Studies which are in huge demand.

The Library conducted two batches of Certificate course in Library & Information Science (Add-on Course) for regular students and those employed as librarians. This course was coordinated by the General Library and provided professional knowledge to the students. A Few of these students are employed in CBSE school libraries.

  Laboratories
LaboratoriesThe science departments are equipped with advanced laboratory facilities. They stock the latest state of the art equipment that is used by the students to conduct experiments in their respective areas.

Botany
Botany has an undergraduate, a postgraduate and a research laboratory. The department specialises in tissue culture, and has a specialised lab for the purpose of research in that area.

Chemistry
The department has an undergraduate and a postgraduate laboratory. The department specializes in various filed of chemistry like polymer chemistry, inorganic chemistry, marine chemistry, environment chemistry and lab is suitable for research in these areas.

Physics
The department has an undergraduate and a postgraduate laboratory. The department specialises in electronics and computer science and its lab is specially fitted for research in that area. The department also has an undergraduate lab for optical instrumentation.

Zoology
The department has an undergraduate and a postgraduate laboratory. The department specialises in biotechnology and its lab has special facilities for research in that area. The department also has a museum and an advanced biotechnology lab.

Audio Visual LaboratoryThe Department of English has an audio-visual laboratory where audio-visual equipment for advanced language learning is available. The Lab also has an audio-visual production facility with a video camera, recording and editing equipment, and reproduction gear.

  Sports & Recreation
Sports & RecreationThe college has a physical education department with facilities for major sports and games like water sports, Power Lifting, Cricket, Basket Ball, Table Tennis, Shuttle Badminton, Kabaddi, and Athletics. The college has a multi gymnasium, a cricket pitch, a concrete Basket Ball court, a Volley Ball court, a Kabaddi court, etc. There are also facilities for recreation like Caroms and Table Tennis arranged in the students’ common room.

The Department of Physical Education has consistently won awards and honours in many sports and games events. Students from the college have won gold medals at national level in Rowing, have been champions at the university level in Cricket, and have been champions in Power lifting.

  Hostel
The college has a hostel for girl students with separate section for postgraduate students. The hostel has a mess room and basic recreational facilities. Around 100 students get accommodation in the hostel. A teacher in the college functions as the warden.

Girl students who require hostel accommodation may contact the present warden Dr. S. Umadevi of the Department of History & Political Science.

  UGC Sponsored Coaching Classes for Entry in Services for SC /ST / OBC (noncreamy layer) & Minorities
The basic objective of the coaching scheme is to prepare students belonging to SC / ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer) and Minority communities to get gainful employment in Group ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ Central services, State services or equivalent positions in the private sector. The coaching under the scheme should be oriented for particular examinations conducted for selection to services, such as the IAS, State Public Services, Bank Recruitment, etc. The coaching may be focused, taking into consideration the specific requirements of a particular competitive examination.

In S.D. College, the coaching classes for entry in services were formally inaugurated on 18th August 2010 by Dr.R.Chandrasekharan Nair, Principal of the college. The coordinator Dr.A.Subrahmanyan welcomed the gathering. Prof. S.Ramanand (Vice-Principal), Dr. T.R.Anilkumar (Associate Professor, Department of Commerce) and Viswanadha Subramanian (Administrative Assistant) offered felicitations. Sri Xavier (Student’s representative) extended the vote of thanks.

The registration was followed by the ice breaking session and the students were divided into 8 groups with elected group leaders. Interesting and informative classes were conducted after the inaugural function. Prof. Devarajan gave a lecture on general awareness and Prof D. Ramachandran Nair conducted a session on English for communication
